After
Distance
Over time, trust sets the distance.
Let the first emotion pass, then see, Don't let each reaction speak for me. So often we're led and call it choice, Sold empty copies in a borrowed voice. I read the gestures, hear the tone, I know when I'm pushed or left alone. And when the road looks smooth and clear, I stop and look at what brought me here. The world has not grown easier, It's still the world I knew. But it's grown quieter inside, And I am here with you. We hide our thoughts when we leave the screen, Yet price tags on faces can still be seen. Feelings sell promises, polished and bright, With terms in small print kept out of sight. Truth is a whisper, quiet and low, It doesn't argue, doesn't put on a show. It stays when the noise has faded away, And you hear your own voice at the end of the day. The world has not grown easier, It's still the world I knew. But it's grown quieter inside, And now you're here with me.
