Bridges

Questions build bridges where silence raises walls.

Ask so you can understand,
Not just to have your say.
We often hear the sound of words,
But let their meaning slip away.

The meaning isn't in the words,
But in the space they leave between.
So many people walk away,
Still strangers to what might have been.

And what you carry deep inside
Won't fade just with the passing years.
It's easier to leave, forget,
And hide your warmth behind veneers.

We build up walls
Where bridges should have grown.
We trample time,
Burning the canvases we've drawn.

Listen to silence —
There's light still fading there.
The silence between words
Is the pulse of years we shared.

And what you read between the lines
Can matter more than any answer there.

Look in the awkward pause,
Behind an accidental wall.
Look in the phrase that came out wrong,
The simple smile that says it all.

Questions can become our bridges,
Conclusions turn to walls.
One can make the distance shorter,
The other makes it harder still.

Before you place the final dot,
Before you close and lock the door,
Try changing where you're looking from —
Ask what you never asked before.

Ask so you can understand,
Don't rush to justify.
Not every signal has been lost,
Not everything must synchronize.

Ask so you can understand
While there's still a thread to hold.
You can leave and disappear
Before the first true word is told.

Some will blame the distance,
Some blame time, the world, or fate.
Maybe all we lacked were questions
And two fields that never touched.

We build up walls
Where bridges should have grown.
We trample time,
Burning the canvases we've drawn.

Listen to silence —
There's light still fading there.
The silence between words
Is the pulse of years we shared.

A question is the formula —
The silence of the pause, the answer.
