Conditions
Candle
Sometimes meaning appears in the quiet conditions of love, when words are no longer enough.
Playing with shadows, the candle burns low, Warming the table with amber-like glow. The evening is breathing, alive with a sound, While moonlight makes ordinary minutes turn strange. A door creaks somewhere deep inside, And slowly our words begin to flow. You’re always beautiful in my eyes — My silent gaze keeps telling you so. Then suddenly clocks can no longer be heard, Their steady rhythm dissolves in the air. And I see a world where our dreams have come true — A strange little moment has carried me there. But how can I fit reality into words? How can your beauty be captured in sound? How can I make myself understood When the words that I need simply can’t be found? And these shadows from the flame Feel like words without a name, Like my thoughts moving on the table Like my feelings in the air. Only shadows from the candle Paint their shapes across the wall, And I try to understand them, Though their forms are simple after all. Maybe time isn’t measure enough, And love isn’t life’s final truth. Maybe one dream that we share between us Is what keeps us moving, honest and true. Time is only a way that we count All the days that our love lets us know. We keep weaving our meanings through life, Even when every new step becomes slow. I don’t know where this evening may lead, Or where our desired road finally goes. I love you without ever counting the minutes, And live where our dreams drift away with the clouds. I can’t fit reality into words, I can’t turn your beauty to sound. I can’t make myself understood When the words that I need can’t be found. And these shadows from the flame Feel like words without a name, Like my thoughts moving on the table Like my feelings in the air. Only shadows from the candle Paint their shapes across the wall, And I try to understand them, Though their forms are simple after all.
