Version

Identity exists as many versions, and searching for the original creates another version.

In stories told by family and friends,
You’re called a villain, then a hero too.
And deep inside, the fight that never ends —
Between the good and evil sides of you.

We are ourselves, yet versions of us grow
In people’s hearts, their stories, minds, online.
And still we chase the self we want to know —
The one we chose and called our own ideal design.

So many versions — where’s the source of all?
And if we’re versions in each other’s view,
Perhaps the world we’ve built around ourselves
Is just a version built by versions too.

I’m just a version — where’s the original?
Who can point and say, “That’s you”?
Because within the lines I’m writing now,
I’m making yet another version too.

We don’t know when our luck will come —
What matters is to seek and try.
We don’t know where our thoughts come from —
What matters is to keep them alive.

We don’t know where our soul may hide —
What matters is to speak with it inside.
We only see what’s in our field of view,
While someone’s quiet eyes are watching too.

I change in every memory people keep —
For those who love me, those who never will.
In one account, I’m kinder than I seem;
In someone else’s, I’m the reason they hurt still.

The self I see and recognize as me
Is never fixed — it changes as I do.
The me from yesterday no longer quite believes
The words today’s me uses to build something new.

And if I gather every version into one,
Behind the self I’ve learned to call my own,
Will I discover what I truly am —
Or one more version I invented all alone?

I’m just a version — where’s the original?
Who can point and say, “That’s you”?
Because within the lines I’m writing now,
I’m making yet another version too.

We don’t know when our luck will come —
What matters is to seek and try.
We don’t know where our thoughts come from —
What matters is to keep them alive.

We don’t know where our soul may hide —
What matters is to speak with it inside.
We only see what’s in our field of view,
While someone’s quiet eyes are watching too.
